Growing up
my Dad would always gather us girls around to sing certain songs with him. I
remember him telling us, or teaching us, harmonies and ways to sing. He would
be like; you’re going to do this part, and you this part, and you that part. I didn't think of it until just now, that from listening to us he knew where we’d
be. A song comes on the radio and we don’t even have to talk about it, we all
know what are part is. I believe my specialty was, and is, backup harmony.
So the guy I've been seeing tells me the other day, “I love that you always take the
harmonies in the songs you sing”. I don’t know if it was because of the
teaching and listening or if I just have an ear for it. All I can think to
reply with is, “that’s how I was taught”.
I've often
thought my older sissy had a beautiful voice and I could never be that good. I was
so jelly of that growing up. I know now, though she has her strong suites,
I have mine as well and she admitted to me once that she could never go as high
as I could. My twin sissy and I figured that you harmonize best with yourself so
we had a one up being twinsies.
I've been
wondering what my dad would have done had his girls not been able to carry a
tune, like my dear brother. I know he enjoys singing as much as we do and had
he not been able to give us that what would he had done? I hope he wouldn't have
been one of those dads that said we were good when we actually aren't. Oh no…I
hope that isn't the case.
